Positivity Only, Please

I am starting this blog so that instead of talking S%*& and getting angry, let's talk about what we can do to make things happier, better, and more peaceful in this country. Which, by the way, I am very thankful for and though it is faaar from perfect, I think it is a wonderful place.

Here are ground rules for this blog.

1. Absolutely NO negativity! If you post something angry, hateful, or negative in general, it WILL be deleted. I am all for the first amendment, but that is not the purpose of this blog

2. The words, "Conservative", "Liberal", "Democrat", "Republican", "Right-Wing", or "Left-Wing" are not allowed...We The PEOPLE!!! That's what we are!

aaaaaannnnnddd....GO!

  1. If one was to struggle or work towards finding happiness then it would be false. Happiness is something that happens without regard for wealth or fame or a new car, but for friends and family and love. To me, to be happy and to love and to be loved are the same. One can love to be wealthy and one can love the spoils of wealth, however the wealth cannot love one back. A car cannot love you, nor can your giant house with rooms you never spend time in.
I have been lucky enough to find the greatest love. I have been lucky enough to be able to fill my beat-up, broken-ass Hyundai and my 1000 square foot house to the brim with true and real happiness. I have been lucky enough to have a son, and a wonderfully awesome woman to raise him with. I never knew that I wouldn't mind at all if another human being shit and pissed on me before. But still, only he can get away with doing that.

So, I guess the point is: Just enjoy what you have in your life. Nobody needs anything but a great big hug and a friend to knock down a beer or two with on the back porch every once in a while to be truly and for real happy.

Good luck Woogs. I hope this catches on. I'll be posting more for sure.

  3. I am full of hate and negativity. But little Milo makes me feel all positive! I am sorry for not looking sooner, I have not yet looked at the donut shop post, but I intend to!

  4. Its difficult to talk about the positive without highlighting how the status quo deviates from it. And what happens if 2 people don't agree on "how to make this country better"? How can they talk through it? How can we collectively sort through the differring opinions and emerge with a higher level of understanding and hopefully agreement?

I agree that often there is too much negativitiy... too much insulting and assuming the worst about about the motives of our ideological adversaries... Nevertheless, I still think prohibiting ALL negativity will only stifle the conversation. I guess what I'm saying is that there can be a positive side to some negativity... Creation almost always involves at least a little bit of destruction.

  5. It's very dificult to talk categorically about anything in this huge, ecclectic country. 4 time zones, 50 states, various concentrations of ethnicities in various climates...
So much talk of "The American Dream". So many individual dreams and aspirations: "To each, their own."
    How to reconcile it all?
I honestly don't think it will ever be reconciled. This country is too big, geographically and culturally. In a few decades there wont even be a "majority", white or otherwise.
I believe creation ALWAYS implies destruction. And vice versa.
There is a certian kind of agitation in America that keeps people aware, on their toes, creative. If you seek to live an active, engaging life you will invariably come up against some friction, you will always be going against some kind of grain. It's a challenge. Especially if you seek to actualize Love and Compassion.
It starts getting ugly when one person or group of people get rigid (read: ignorant) enough to believe that they have a moral superiority-- when they start to apply their rules, beliefs, practices, etc..., on others.
They key seems to be ACCEPTANCE. To be comfortable enough with who you are to not want to change anyone else. To focus on making YOUR life the best it can be. To be a LIFE ARTIST, with yr life as the canvas, your actions the brushstrokes. To be constantly engaged with yr masterpiece.
How could you even have time to change others if you seriously and honestly pursue this sacred task?
To paraphrase Jean-Paul Sartre: To desire freedom for oneself is to wish freedom for everyone.

  6. pointing out the negative brings the positive into the light. judging the polarity of a situation is one sided. for the same accident, can be a win fall.
